At Rock Stack Studio we provide a comfortable and encouraging environment to support your creative goals and be a catalyst for deeper understanding of self and the world around us. To do this we offer:

Studio Space

A private studio is provided. It is approx 200sq ft with high ceilings, free wireless access, natural light, tables, shelves, comfy sitting chair for contemplation. Backyard access to chimnea and picnic table seating.

 

Visual Arts: This is a non-toxic studio. Any medium accepted that meets this standard.

 

Writing: Fiction, Nonfiction, Playwriting, Poetry, Screenwriting, Translating, Graduate or Post-graduate research writing for thesis, dissertation, grant proposals, white papers. Editing and reviewing support for ESL writers available on-site.

 

The studio is in historic neighborhood 3 blocks from Main Street. Cultural Center focused on local Native American culture hosts daily evening events. Within walking, to community recreational center. Ten miles from Mesa Verde National Park.

Living Space

  • Private bedroom suite in main house. Private entrance, private bathroom with shower and kitchenette that includes, electric tea kettle, toaster, microwave and refrigerator. Queen size bed with linens provided. Suite has alcove suitable for 6 foot table [provided] and floor space for stretching/yoga etc. Limited access to washer and dryer. Outdoor clothesline available! See photos and detailed information.

 

  • No meals/food provided. Local restaurants and coffee shops within easy walking. Full grocery store with organic produce, Health food store and seasonal Farmer's Market on Saturdays within walking. You are responsible for purchase and preparation of meals

 

  • There is a dog on-site and a dog will be considered after discussion. Pet deposit required.

 

  • Smoking not permitted.

Availability & Fee

    • One month's fee is $800. A two-week fee is $550.

 

    • Arrangements can be made for two to four weeks.

 

    • Payment can be arranged at time of acceptance

 

    • Utilities and WiFi are included.

Cortez, Colorado has a local airport. Flights are twice a day and connect with the Denver hub. Great Lakes Airlines is the local carrier and is affiliated with United Airlines.

 

Durango, Colorado has a local airport. Flights are several times a day and connect with Denver or Albuquerque, NM. The residence is 45 minutes from the airport. Arrangements can be made to pick you up and drop off. During your stay, amenities are easily accessible within a 5 to 10 minute walk from the residence.

 

Farmington, New Mexico has a local airport. Flights are several times a day and connect with Denver or Albuquerque, NM. The residence is 1.5 hours away from the airport. Arrangements can be made to pick you up and drop off. During your stay, amenities are easily accessible within a 5 to 10 minute walk from the residence.

 

Albuquerque, New Mexico is the closest international airport. The residence is 4.5 hours away from the airport. Arrangements can be made to pick you up and drop off. During your stay, amenities are easily accessible within a 5 to 10 minute walk from the residence.

Behind the scene Who is doing all the work?

 

Lori Hinrichsen has been traversing the country for the last seven years. She was actively involved in consecutive art residencies and teaching workshops in Northern California at the Mendocino Art Center. She was on staff at the Vermont Studio Center for several years. Lori received a Fellowship from the Virginia Center for Creative Arts and was awarded a Full Fellowship from the Vermont Studio Center in printmaking. She has enjoyed teaching art and being a guide to people in their creative process and has recently started teaching workshops in vermont and beyond. Lori is currently living and working in the Champlain Valley. Her creative processes include printmaking, photography, and installation.  www.lorihinrichsen.com

 

 

Janel Hinrichsen has spent much of her life in creative and communicative settings. Always living and being part of a university and college life, she has gravitated towards individuals who seek to express themselves through writing and visual arts. Communicating with individuals who come from diverse backgrounds, live in diverse communities, and are introspective are important to her. Janel’s career in higher education encompasses teaching and learning in the fields of intercultural education, multicultural transformation, linguistics, English, social psychology, racism and prejudice issues, and organizational communication. She is a college professor and consultant.
